The city of Newton honored its veterans on Sunday, Nov. 11, with a ceremony at American Legion Post 440 in Nonantum. Newton firefighter Army paratrooper Mark Dezso, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was the featured speaker. Veterans Remembered and Celebrated at Boston College Mass and Ceremony [Video]

Veterans Day allows soldiers and civilians to come together and remember those who fought for their country and may have given the ultimate sacrifice.

It may have started off as a cold and windy Friday morning, but that did not stop people from pouring into St. Ignatius Church at Boston College for the 11th Annual Veterans Remembrance Mass. “Veterans know how to serve, especially in the worst of circumstances,” said Father Anthony Penna, who lead the Veterans Day service. Penna went to tell a story of unwavering courage, patriotism and solidarity that soldiers in Vietnam prison camps upheld. He spoke to the power of their belief in the greater good and their pure unwillingness to give up. 1. Thank a veteran. It's Veterans Day, so make sure you find someone in uniform and give him/her a special thanks for their service.  2. It goes to 11. That's right, it's 11/11/11. Veterans Day Ceremonies in Newton

Honor local veterans with these events tomorrow.

Both the city of Newton and Boston College will honor local veterans during special ceremonies tomorrow morning.  On the city side, a ceremony will be held tomorrow, Nov. 11, at the American Legion Post #440 in Nonantum. Local veterans, families and residents are welcome to the event to honor local men and women in uniform. The event begins at 11 a.m. and light refreshments will be served following the ceremonies.  Over at Boston College, Veterans Day will begin with a memorial mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. A Day of Remembrance and Thanks

Newton remembers and recognizes its veterans of the past and present.

With their uniforms pressed, hats straightened and hands flexed above the brow in a firm salute, Newton's veterans stood proud and strong yesterday morning.  The city thanked their veterans yesterday with a ceremony held at Nonantum American Legion Post #440. Several local officials appeared before the crowd of veterans, families and children to salute the men and women in uniform.  "I'm honored to be here today not only as your mayor but as a veteran myself," said Mayor Setti Warren. Warren, a Navy veteran of the Iraq War, remembered and recognized his father and grandfather, veterans of the Korean War and World War II. Come honor veterans at Newton's annual ceremony, held at Post 440 today at 10 a.m.

Today is Veterans Day. Make sure you take time to thank a veteran for his or her service to the country. You can also join Patch in honoring our veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces by donating to our partner charity, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. We have also provided a list of what is open and closed today. The City of Newton will honor its veterans with a ceremony at Post 440, 295 California St. The event, which begins at 10 a.m., will include guest speaker Mayor Setti Warren, a veteran of the Iraq War.
