Elation: Scene of Watertown Capture of Marathon Bombing Suspect

'This is our town:' a first-person view of how the aftermath became a celebration parade of dozens of police and fire vehicles.

It took a few minutes, but when reality sank in that the second Boston Marathon bomber had been captured in Watertown — their town — the crowd's mood changed; it became like a victory parade for a Red Sox world championship. After watching the scene in the chilly damp night, being up all night and cooped up all day, it was extra sweet to hear the words "suspect in custody" over the police radio. Two hours earlier, I had been contemplating a second helping of chicken stirfry when the words rarely heard in Watertown came crackling over the scanner: "Shots fired." Newton Woman, Boston Man Busted for Watertown Dispute Involving Gun

The pair allegedly displayed a gun during a dispute at an Essex Street home.

A Newton woman and a Boston man were arrested on Dec. 16 on serious gun charges, according to Watertown Police. Daryle Smith, 44, of Boston and Elizabeth Casey Singleman, 30, of 302 Watertown St., Apt A, Newton, each face charges in connection with a dispute at a Watertown home, according to Watertown Police.  Smith faces the following charges: possession of a loaded firearm and possession of ammunition. Singleman faces charges for possession of a loaded firearm.  The incident started when Watertown Police received a report of a dispute at 14 Essex St. at around 9:30 p.m., according to Lt. OMGPD: Oops, That Car Wasn't *Really* Stolen, and When Whitening Strips Are Not Enough

Whitening strips thief graduates — to hair care products Newton Police responded to the Walgreens on Washington Street Sunday after an employee reported that a man had nearly cleaned out all the Nexxus hair products in the store. According to reports, the male suspect was only in the store for about 90 seconds before he stole an entire shelf of said hair care products. The employee, who viewed the incident on security tapes, said the same man reportedly had come into the store four of five times recently, previously stealing Crest White Strips. After spotting the alleged thief in the store the employee said she walked over to the man, who proceeded to yell at her and walk out of the store. Newton Man Arrested for Stealing from Watertown Town Hall Employee

The man allegedly stole a savings card from Town Hall after being spotted looking through a dentist's office.

Police arrested a Newton man who allegedly stole a savings card from the bag of a Watertown Town Hall employee on March 6. Christopher E. Williams, 20, of 42 Roundwood Road in Newton, was arrested on a charge of larceny from a building, according to Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. Earlier in the day, police received a call about a suspicious man who went into a dentist's office on Main Street, Lawn said. "Officers spoke with a receptionist who observed a male pacing in the waiting room and then entered the door into the dental area," Lawn said. "She found him in one of the offices looking through items on a shelf. She confronted him and he stated he was looking for a bathroom." The man, later identified as Williams, eventually left the …

Former Watertown Police Officer Faces Federal Charges in a Drug Case

Three other men face charges linked to the extortion of a Newton jewelry store on March 17.

The U.S. Department of Justice indicted a former Watertown Police officer on charges of conspiring with a drug dealer to obstruct an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to documents that federal officials partially unsealed on May 24 charging 18 people with drug, extortion and money laundering offenses. Roberto Velasquez-Johnson, also known as George Diamond, allegedly conspired with Safwan Madarati of Watertown, who was arrested in April on charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and collecting debt by extortionate means, along with eight other men. Newton Incident Tied to Watertown Prostitution Bust

Police made arrests at the Whitney Plaza Apartments and the Super 8 Motel in Watertown last week.

Watertown Police arrested three people in connection to two separate prostitution busts last week -- one of which was tied to a Newton prostitution incident at the Hotel Indigo. The manager of the Whitney Plaza Apartments on Main Street in Watertown contacted Watertown Police after noticing suspicious activity in one of the apartments, said Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “A male had rented the apartment and paid cash for two-months rent,” Lawn said. “Minimal furniture was moved in, and since the apartment was rented there was an increase in the number of males entering the building, talking on cell phones and proceeding to apartment 702."
