New Principal Selected for Williams Elementary in Newton

The new principal previously served as principal in Poland, Maine.

Superintendent David Fleishman announced today that Ayesha Farag-Davis has been named the new principal at Williams Elementary School in Newton. Farag-Davis is currently working on her Ph.D. at Lesley University, according to a letter issued to the Williams community this week. She previously worked as a principal at the elementary and middle schools in Poland, Maine and held a position as Assistant Principal in Portland, Maine. In addition, Farag-Davis has worked as a classroom teacher and school counselor in Maine and Vermont. VIDEO: Newton Community Comes Together to Build New School Playground

The Williams Elementary School community has spent the last couple of years organizing and planning for a new playground. After fundraising and a "community build," the project is finally finished. A ribbon cutting for the new playground was held Aug. 25.

When students return to Williams Elementary School next Tuesday, they may notice something a little different about the school's recess space.  Thanks to a jumpstart from the city and fundraising efforts from the Williams community, the Grove Street elementary school has a brand new playground.  The project, which replaced a 20-year-old play structure, had been in the works for about two years, Williams PTO Co-President Sarah White told Newton Patch. It includes a plastic rock wall, tubes to crawl through, a lookout tower and every kind of slide a kid could imagine.  "The whole [playground structure] is pretty cool," White said. Interim Principal Selected for Newton's Williams Elementary

Current principal Midge Connolly will be leaving to take the vice principal position at Newton North High School.

Superintendent David Fleishman announced this week that Williams Elementary School literacy specialist Bob Beaudet will take over as interim principal at Williams for the 2012-2013 school year. Beaudet will replace outgoing principal Midge Connolly, who will be taking over as Newton North vice principal in the fall.  According to a letter from Fleishman, Beaudet has played a leadership role for staff development in literacy issues both at Williams and throughout the district.
