Newton firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire on Freeman Street this morning that broke out just before 11:30 a.m. The fire seemed to have started in the kitchen and may have been the result of an electrical issue, according to Newton Fire Department officials on scene. However, crews are still investigating the scene and an official cause has not yet been determined. Firefighters doused the flames before they could extend to the second floor, officials said, but there is smoke damage throughout the home. No one was home at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported, officials said.
