OMGPD: Asleep at the Stop Light, a Troublesome Teen — Dressed as a Tree? — and More Police Oddities

The Music Was Not Loud Enough... A Burlington man was arrested on May 5 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel of his car in Newton Corner. According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Centre Street for reports of a male party asleep behind the wheel of a red Mercedes. When officers arrived, they found the car stopped at the traffic signal, just before the on-ramp to the Mass Pike. Reports said the driver was asleep behind the wheel with the doors locked and loud music playing. The vehicle was running and in neutral. Newton Police Logs: OUI in Newton Corner; Robbery; Break-ins

License charges, warrant arrest Newton Police responded to Quinobequin Road on May 1 after State Police tried to pull over a vehicle, but lost the car in the area.  A detail officer on Woodward Street managed to pull the vehicle over, reports said, and found the driver was driving with a suspended license. The driver also had a warrant out for his arrest. David M. Katz, 57, of 100 Andrew St., was arrested on a warrant out of Lawrence District Court, possession of a class A substance (subsequent offense). He was also cited for driving with a suspended license, police said. Shoplifting at CVS Newton Police responded to the CVS on Watertown Street on May 2 for reports of a man who left the store with an unknown amount of prepaid credit cards…

Newton Police Log: Calling AAA Under the Influence; Car Break-in

  Calling AAA...Under the influence A Wellesley man was arrested on April 26 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and attempted to call AAA after losing a wheel on his vehicle. According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. Friday, April 26, after AAA called the police to report an intoxicated driver attempting to have his tire changed. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man in the driver's seat of a Mercury Marquis, which was still running. Police said the man smelled like alcohol, had slurred speech and glassy/bloodshot eyes. Newton Police Log: Assault with Pruning Shears; Stolen Truck

Assault with Pruning Shears Newton Police responded to Newton-Wellesley Hospital on April 22 to speak with someone regarding a stabbing that had occurred earlier in the day on Farwell Road in Newton. As a result of the incident, Gustavo A. Diaz, 44, of 49D Harvard St., Waltham, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (pruning shears), police said.  According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Diaz was arraigned in Newton District Court on Tuesday, April 23, and released on personal recognizance. Police Log: Woman Assaulted in Newton Corner; License Charges; Driving Under the Influence

Framingham woman found sleeping in car A Framingham woman was arrested on April 18 after she allegedly drove drunk fell asleep behind the wheel. According to police reports, Newton Police officers responded to the area of Park Street and Washington Street just after 6 a.m. for reports of a car stopped in the middle of the road and a woman hunched over the steering wheel.  When police arrived on scene, they found the car in the intersection with the driver asleep. The car was still running, reports said.  As a result, Hayley M. Car break-in Newton Police responded to Arlington Street on April 11 after a resident reported someone broke into an unlocked Volkswagen Jetta and an unlocked Subaru Forester sometime between April 8 at 8 p.m. and April 9 at 7 p.m., reports said. Break-in on Botsford Road A Botsford Road resident told police on April 11 that someone broke into her home and stole her Apple MacBook and Kindle Fire from her first floor bedroom. According to reports, the theft happened sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Both the front and side door of the home were left unlocked. Break-in at the library Newton Police responded to the Newton Free Library on April 9 after an employee reported someone had smashed a window and broken into the library. According to police reports, the incident happened sometime between 10:58 p.m. April 8 and 6:15 a.m. April 9. The suspect broke a window on the ground floor of the building and then broke into the library's cash register, reports said.   Whatever Happened to Plain Old Arm-Wrestling? An argument between co-workers at Russo's market in Watertown escalated and one of the men found himself taken into custody by Watertown Police. One man challenged the other to a fight, and the other man responded by pulling out a knife. [Updated April 17, 4 p.m.] Shoplifting incidents at Chestnut Hill Star Market Newton Police responded to the Chestnut Hill Star Market on April 4 for two separate shoplifting incidents. One incident involved a 46-year-old West Roxbury man who ordered seafood and then proceeded to leave the store without paying. He was given a no trespassing order and police are seeking criminal complaints against him for the theft of a florentine pinwheel and four lobsters. The second shoplifting incident involved a Newton woman. Laura M. Backman, 38, of 497 Centre St. #6, was arrested and charged with witness interference/obstruction of justice and larceny under $250, police said.
