More Details on Shake Shack's Wednesday Opening in Chestnut Hill

The first Boston-area Shake Shack will be located at 49 Boylston St. in Newton.

The countdown to Shake Shack begins: T-minus 24 hours.  As we noted last week, the new Chestnut Hill Shake Shack is set to open tomorrow, March 20. According to a press release issued this week, doors will open at 11 a.m.  The popular eatery will be located at 49 Boylston St., at The Street in Chestnut Hill. Report: Chestnut Hill Shake Shack to Open Next Week

The popular NYC-based restaurant that is famous for its burgers, fries and shakes is opening next week in Newton (Chestnut Hill).

Move Over Harlem Shake: Chestnut Hill is getting its own Shake (Shack). The new Shake Shack is reportedly opening at The Street in Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, March 20. According to Eater Boston, the iconic New York-based higher end fast food joint will be welcoming customers a week from today. If its sibling restaurants are any indication, the newest Shake Shack location will undoubtedly be serving some Chestnut Hill-specific “concretes” or frozen custards with mix-ins. Also on the menu will likely be their usual wide selection of burgers and hot dogs, fries, frozen custard concoctions and beer and wine. The new eatery is opening up in the former Rugged Bear space. 'Veg Out' at the New Walnut Grille in Newton Highlands

Chef Shiva Kumar and Chef/Owner Kannan Kesav tell Newton Patch why everyone- even meat-lovers- will love the fare at their new vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Newton Highlands.

  If you have driven by the new Walnut Grille in Newton Highlands, you may have noticed their sign that touts the restaurant as being a “vegetarian and vegan experience.”  And you may have asked yourself, “What exactly is a ‘vegetarian and vegan experience?’” According to Chef Shiva Kumar, one of five friends involved in the new venture, the answer is actually pretty simple. “So many vegetarian restaurants, restaurants in general, are just that --restaurants,” Kumar explains. “We wanted to attract people with more. New Sports Club/LA, City Sports to Open Next Week in Newton

The new fitness club and sporting goods store are located at The Street in Chestnut Hill.

Two years after Chestnut Hill said goodbye to Macy's, new retail is opening up at the former department store site. Both Sports Club/LA and City Sports are slated to open next week in the The Street's new, 115,000-square-foot building at 55 Boylston St. (Route 9) in Chestnut Hill. Sports Club/LA will open on Monday, March 11, according to the fitness club's website. The website lists the club hours as Monday-Friday, 5:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. and Saturday-Sunday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. The "jewel box"-concept sports club will feature a number of "technologically-advanced" fitness programs and high-end amenities including a functional training studio, group fitness and a full-experience cycling studio complete with high definition video that allows …

City Sports, Century Bank Building Comes Down in Chestnut Hill [Photos]

The City Sports will be reopening in the new building next door and Century Bank will be moving to the new Chestnut Hill Square development.

[Updated 12:20 p.m. with information on the City Sports opening date.] As one building goes up, another comes down.  If you travel Route 9 often, you've probably noticed a few new piles of rubble at The Street in Chestnut Hill, as the building that housed City Sports and Century Bank was recently torn down.  The tear-down is just a few doors away from The Street's new, 115,000-square-foot building that will house a number of new restaurants and retail stores, including a new City Sports location, a Sports Club/LA, Pinkberry and Showcase Super Lux movie theater.  Century Bank, which closed the Chestnut Hill location in fall 2012, has decided to move its branch to the new Chestnut Hill Square development, which is slated to open in fall 2013…

New Walnut Grille Restaurant Opening Tonight in Newton Highlands

Starting next week, the new "vegetarian and vegan experience" will be offering lunch as well as dinner.

Newton's newest "vegetarian and vegan experience" is ready to open its doors in Newton Highlands. Walnut Grille, located at 1203 Walnut St., will open for dinner tonight, Feb. 28, co-owner Kaarthy Madhan told Newton Patch in an email this week.  The Walnut Grille dinner menu boasts four pages of vegetarian-friendly soups, salads, entrees, side dishes, pizzas, smoothies, kids' meals and fresh-squeezed juices. Many of the dishes offer vegan options as well as gluten- and soy-free ingredients. According to Madhan, the restaurant will start its dinner service tonight and begin lunch service next week. Brunch will soon be available on the weekends as well.  A take-out menu will also be available for locals who want a quick salad or a smoothie …

Pinkberry Opening Soon in Chestnut Hill

The popular frozen yogurt shop will be opening at The Street in Newton (formerly the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center).

Well, pretty soon you can get your Pinkberry fix right here in Newton. Newton Chef Named as James Beard Award Semifinalist

The winners will be announced on May 6 in New York City.

Newton's hometown celebrity chef Michael Leviton has been nominated once again for a James Beard Award in the "Best Chef: Northeast" category. Leviton, who grew up in Newton Centre, is the man behind the popular Lumière restaurant in West Newton. According to the James Beard Foundation website, Leviton and Lumière have been nominated for the Best Chef: Northeast award six other times (2005-2010).  The list of award semifinalists will be narrowed down to a list of finalists, which will be announced on Monday, March 18, according to Eater.com. The winners will be announced on Monday, May 6. Two New Restaurants Coming to Newton's Mall at Chestnut Hill

The mall recently saw the exit of Bernard's and Charley's.

Just a few weeks after losing Charley's Saloon and Bernard's, the Mall at Chestnut Hill announced yesterday two new eateries will be moving into the vacated restaurant spaces. Besito and Tokyo Japanese Steak House will both open in the mall this summer, according to a press release issued Wednesday.  "These are unique restaurants for the area and our shoppers are sure to love the experience and dining atmosphere at both,” Simon Property Group Senior Vice President of Leasing Cindy Kernan said in the press release. When is the New '2ovens' Restaurant Opening in Newton?

The Board of Aldermen's Land Use Committee recently approved special permits to allow outdoor seating at the new Needham Street restaurant.

The Board of Aldermen's Land Use Committee approved last week a special permit that would allow 20 outdoor seats at the new "2ovens" restaurant space located at 300 Needham St. in Newton Upper Falls.  The outdoor seating approval comes four months after the Board of Aldermen approved an initial special permit amendment that allows a 100-seat restaurant at the Needham Street location.  So, when will the new Bertucci's-owned restaurant open?  According to a recent email from Bertucci's Vice President of Development James Quackenbush, the Newton 2ovens is aiming to open sometime in late May.  The 90-seat eatery will feature two ovens in the center of the restaurant.
