Newton's Turtle Lane Playhouse Closes its Doors

The Auburndale theatre spot has canceled its scheduled production of "Jesus Christ Super Star."

After more than three decades in Newton, the Turtle Lane Playhouse in Auburndale has officially closed its doors. The local theatre company announced the closure on its website Tuesday, Feb. 5: Turtle Lane has closed its doors today and canceled our last scheduled production. We would like to thank all of our patrons and subscribers for these last 32 years and also all of the wonderful actors who have come through these doors. Sincerely, The Staff at Turtle Lane Playhouse Turtle Lane announced last spring its plans to close by the end of 2012. It then decided to extend its final season with a production of "Jesus Christ Superstar," which was scheduled to run April 19 - May 12, 2013. Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 18

Want a night on the town? There are a few local theatre performances you can attend tonight.

Andover-Newton Theological School will hold a prayer service this afternoon for the victims of the earthquake and tsunamis in Japan. The service will be held at noon and another service will be held on Monday.  Are you the parent of a fourth grader? The Newton Community Service Center will host a Funtastic Friday for Fourth Graders tonight from 7 to 9. The evening will include time to hang with friends and meet kids from other Newton schools while a DJ plays music.  There will be games and challenges, as well as snacks and drinks at kid-friendly prices.
