Charlie Shapiro is a former Newton Alderman and served for two years as vice-chair of the Post Audit & Oversight committee and as a member of the Zoning & Planning commitee and the Public Safety & Transportation committee.

His credits include bringing the “Silver Alert” system to the City of Newton which can help keep those with Alzheimer’s safer. The program is now state-wide based, in part, on the Newton example.

Earlier in his career, Shapiro worked in broadcasting both on the air and in management. He is also a former broadcasting teacher, and led the effort to establish one of the nation’s largest broadcast scholarship programs providing training, internship, and employment opportunities for women, minorities, and veterans.

He is producer/host of the multi award winning community public affairs program "Newton Newsmakers with Charlie Shapiro" seen in over 25,000 housholds throughout the City of Newton on NewTV. www.newtonnewsmakers.org.

Charlie and his wife Debra live in Newton with their two children David and Rebecca.
