When Will '2ovens' Open in Upper Falls?

At the recent Feast of the Falls event at Hemlock Gorge, Upper Falls neighbors gathered for dinner, entertainment and, of course, local gossip.

A question overheard time and time again: What is the deal with 2ovens?

Well, we don't have much to offer in the way of an answer, but we do have something.

2ovens in Newton Upper Falls will open – but there's no update on when. The restaurant, a hybrid eatery under the Bertucci's Italian Cuisine family, serves a variety of pizzas, salads, roasted meats and vegetables and more, according to its online menu.

"Bertucci’s is very excited about the Needham Street location in Newton," Bertucci's Assistant Marketing Manager Stacey Furtado told Patch. "Unfortunately, at this time we do not have a definitive timetable for when 2ovens will open this year."

Late last year, Patch reported that 2ovens planned to open other locations in Massachusetts, specifically one in Shrewsbury. According to Shrewsbury Patch, that location is open, but it appears to be the only location at this time based on information on the 2ovens website. 

A special permit to construct outdoor seating and to waive construction of some parking stalls was approved earlier this year. According to city documents, a building permit for the space at 300 Needham St. was issued on Feb. 14, allowing construction to "fit out existing space for new restaurant," among other things.

When 2ovens does open, Bertucci's Vice President of Development James Quackenbush told Patch in September 2012 that it will feature food prepared only in ovens imported from Italy.

There will be no microwaves or fryers, Quackenbush said, only the ovens.

Bertucci's currently operates a location at 275 Centre St., in Newton Corner.
