Newton Resident, Former Obama Official to Run For Governor

Donald Berwick of Newton was the former administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Newton Resident Donald Berwick, a former top Obama administration health care official, has announced he will run for Massachusetts governor in 2014, according to the Boston Globe.

News that Berwick was mulling a possible run for governor first surfaced back in January.

Berwick, 66, was the administrator of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services from 2010 to 2011 and is a former Harvard University faculty member.

In a statement, Berwick said there would be a formal announcement and campaigning after the June 25 U.S. Senate special election, according to the Globe.
