Mayor Ushers In Wellcoin Month by Signing Up

Newton Mayor Setti Warren stopped by the Gath Memorial Pool Tuesday afternoon to make his support of Wellcoin even more official.

He signed up to participate.

In May, Warren introduced Newton as a model city for the Internet health currency program started by Newton resident Glenn Laffel. Then, Monday, the mayor announced that July is Wellcoin Month. The month will feature a variety of events and programs throughout Newton, beginning with the stop at Gath Pool Tuesday.

Wellcoin is a "healthy decisions" and "virtual currency" company that rewards participants with Wellcoins when they make healthy decisions. Those coins can be redeemed at partner businesses throughout the city.

Check out the video of Warren triumphantly signing up as a Wellcoin user and check back soon for Patch's interview with the founder and the city official who pushed for Newton becoming a Wellcoin Model City.
